For Nuova Saimpa, Polytec Intralogistics has designed and implemented a fully automated system for handling plastic boxes containing semi-processed raw materials across various production areas within the facility. The project aimed to optimize internal flows, ensure full material traceability, and increase operational efficiency, while reducing errors and minimizing manual intervention.
At the core of the system is a fleet of five Voyager N50 AGVs, autonomous guided vehicles designed to operate safely in complex environments shared with human personnel. The AGVs interface with a network of smart roller conveyors equipped with sensors and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) devices that enable real-time communication with the central system.
Each plastic box is identified by a unique code, digitally linking its contents to the corresponding production process. At every loading and unloading station, an automatic reader detects the box code and identifies the type of material. The WMS (Warehouse Management System) processes this information in real time and automatically assigns the most suitable mission to an AGV via the fleet manager, which coordinates all vehicle movements.
The human-machine interface was designed to be simple, intuitive, and user-friendly: each station is equipped with interactive devices that allow operators to quickly interact with the system, check flow statuses, and request interventions or priority handling when needed.
Thanks to this highly flexible and scalable system, Nuova Saimpa can now dynamically adapt to production changes, ensuring fast response times, full material traceability, and a significant improvement in internal efficiency.
