What is a Fork AMR/AGV?

Autonomous guided vehicles equipped with lifting forks, designed to replace or support traditional forklifts in warehouse and production environments.

Polytec Intralogistics fork AMRs and AGVs automate the core of intralogistics operations: pallet handling. Unlike manual forklifts, they operate autonomously, continuously and safely, following real-time optimized routes while communicating directly with the company’s management systems.

The difference between AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) and AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) lies in their level of autonomy: AMRs dynamically plan their routes through laser navigation or SLAM technology, adapting to obstacles without requiring fixed infrastructures. AGVs follow predefined paths with extremely high repeatability. In both cases, the result is a continuous, traceable pallet handling flow fully integrated with ERP, WMS and MES systems.

The Polytec Intralogistics Discovery line covers the three main fork handling configurations: front, bilateral and trilateral. Each configuration is designed for a specific operational scenario, from point-to-point transport to high-density storage in narrow aisles.

Applications

Where fork AMRs/AGVs operate

Distribution warehouses

Automated management of goods receiving, storage and order preparation with full pallet traceability at every stage.

Production facilities

Automatic feeding of production lines with raw materials and semi-finished goods, eliminating manual waiting times and bottlenecks.

Automated buffers and WIP

Work-In-Progress management between departments: fork AGVs move semi-finished products synchronously with production rhythms.

Shipping and loading bays

Automatic transfer of ready pallets to shipping areas, synchronized with order management software and transport systems.

Automation that generates measurable value

Investing in fork AMRs and AGVs is not just a technological choice: it is a strategic lever to reduce operating costs, increase safety and scale warehouse operations without proportionally increasing workforce requirements.

The Discovery line is designed with a modular approach: operations can start with the configuration best suited to the current workflow and scale the fleet as requirements evolve, while maintaining a single, fully integrable software architecture.

-35% operating costs

Average reduction in internal handling costs thanks to the elimination of downtime and errors.

0 fixed infrastructures

Laser navigation and SLAM technology without floor guides, magnets or warehouse layout modifications.

24/7 operational continuity

Fleets operating continuously with scheduled automatic charging and zero unplanned downtime.

100% pallet traceability

Every mission is recorded in real time and synchronized with ERP and WMS systems for complete stock and flow visibility.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Investing in fork AMRs and AGVs is not just a technological choice: it is a strategic lever to reduce operating costs, increase safety and make warehouse operations scalable without proportionally increasing workforce requirements.

The Discovery line is designed with a modular approach: operations start with the configuration best suited to the current workflow, while the fleet can be scaled as operational needs evolve, maintaining a single, fully integrable software architecture.

With the laser navigation and SLAM technology adopted by the Discovery line, no floor guides, magnets or fixed reflectors are required. The robot autonomously maps the environment during the commissioning phase. Standard forklift aisle widths and a reliable Wi-Fi network for communication with the fleet manager are sufficient.

Polytec Intralogistics fleet management software features standard APIs (REST/SOAP) for bidirectional communication with leading management systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle and customized WMS solutions. Missions are automatically generated from ERP orders, while completion data updates warehouse inventory levels in real time.

The choice mainly depends on the warehouse layout and the pallet access direction. Discovery Frontal is ideal for linear transport and simple workflows. Discovery Bilateral is recommended for warehouses with double-sided aisle storage. Discovery Trilateral maximizes storage density in narrow aisle warehouses where pallets must be accessed both laterally and frontally. Our team provides a free flow analysis to identify the most efficient solution.

Yes. Discovery robots are certified for operation in environments shared with people (EN ISO 3691-4). They integrate 360° laser sensors, real-time obstacle detection and safety stop systems. Coexistence with human operators and other vehicles is an integral part of the project and is also managed through dedicated traffic zones within the fleet management software.
